Precision Pistons and Piston Assemblies

We manufacture the highest quality, tightest tolerance pistons and piston assemblies available.

In fabricating our piston assemblies, we assemble a ceramic, sapphire or ruby piston into a custom ferrule — usually high-quality stainless steel. In some versions we hold the OD of the piston and ID of the ferrule to such tight tolerances we simply “press fit” them. In other versions, we “heat set” the piston by raising the temperature of the ferrule, thus causing the metal to expand. This is a major benefit over competing products because we use no adhesives to assemble the sapphire (or ruby, or ceramic) piston rod into the ferrule.

Stainless Steel Pipette Pistons

Whether for hand-held or automated liquid handlers, our pipette pistons’ superior surface finish means less friction between the piston OD and seal. This lower friction helps extend piston and seal life up to 10 times longer than typical, centerless ground pistons — with corresponding lower maintenance cost, less downtime.

· Proprietary roll-lapping technology for OD tolerances down to ±0.00002” – five times more precise than the ±0.0001” typical for centerless ground pistons
· OD surface finishes down to 1-3 microinch (Ra)
